Semi-automated offside technology is a tool that assists video match referees and on-field officials in making faster, more repeatable, and more accurate offside decisions.
Cameras will be installed on the stadium's roof, and they will be able to track all 22 players and calculate their exact position on the field. There will be 29 data points on each player to cover all conceivable limbs and extremities that could be offside.
When an offside is detected, AI analyses all player and ball data in real time and alerts the VAR. After that, the VAR must confirm the accuracy of the kick point and offside line before telling the referee, who can then confirm the decision.
