I come from a background of Govt. Teachers. I have completed Engineering in Computer Science. In my Engineering final year, I attended a walk-in drive conducted by a few colleges and I was placed in IBM. My parents were not ready to allow me to go to Bangalore soon after Engineering.
They were a little skeptical about the outside world. Therefore, I was at home for two years. Then I cracked CUCET (all India entrance exam conducted by Central Govt of India) then pursued MBA in Finance and Marketing. Once I joined as Operations Executive soon after my MBA. I found out I was made for something else and was not happy with what I was doing. But I’m very grateful for everything as I got exposure to how jobs are designed. We must find what we truly want. I have always aspired to be a Techie and when I came across the Great Learning program, I got a new ray of hope that it’s never too late to work on your dreams, then one thing led to another.
During the course, I realized there is a plethora of data that can be explored and analyzed to make a better impact on things. I was researching so many courses that could help me find a way to improve my skills and also which would make me professionally efficient.
Though, I have completed my Computer Science and Engineering. But then I got into a non-functional role, got this job based on my MBA in Marketing and Finance. So, to me, it was very challenging to shift myself to a functional role that I was interested in. Moving within an organization to a functional role was nearly impossible for me as I lacked knowledge of certain tools and techniques which were mandatory to know.
I was planning to join WILP from BITS, Pilani that claims to offer Business Analytics. I wasn’t really sure to join that course as they clearly mentioned there wouldn’t be any placement assistance from their side. Soon a day or two later I got a pop-up email from Great Learning. Someone from the team had contacted me and took me through all the details about the course, time period, placement perks, Certification, and Fee structure. I got quite excited after I spoke to the engagement personnel. I fast forward my research regarding Great Learning online. I really felt hopeful but my concern was fees (as I would have to bear my study expenses, invest time for studies after office). But then they have helped me with the zero-interest loan plans. I felt like it was absolutely designed for me. Since it was online, and mentor sessions were on Sundays, I found it more reliable as I don’t have days off on Saturdays. Therefore, this course was well suited and didn’t harm me to pursue studies as a working professional.
In the beginning, I got scared after listening to the mentored learning sessions because I could realize where I stand now and how much more I have to work on my skills to become industry-ready. Eventually, I started gaining confidence. And these sessions have helped me a lot in developing my overall personality.
Great Learning has the best mentors from the industry who have apt knowledge with respect to domain and practical problems in the industry that we might face during modeling and analysis. I have grabbed the best of what I could from them. Very happy with the mentored classes which help you shape as a functional professional.
Our mentors were great. I faced no issues during the learning. All the doubts were cleared and they have suggested a few websites and books to read which are really very good. Then for the Capstone project, we had Mr. Nimesh as our mentor. He was equally very experienced and the way he delivered lectures and tips were really helpful during my interview process. Very happy with the mentors as we got the best mentors.
I have successfully landed a job as an Analytics Consultant at QuantZig. It’s like a dream come true for me. I cannot say how happy and gratified I am. As of a year ago, thinking of a career transition from a non-functional role to a functional role seemed impossible. Big thanks to Great Learning and their Excelerate program which is meant for placement assistance, it is very well designed. Looking forward to delivering the best possible I can to the industry. I got the breakthrough that I was looking for. If I could do it, you can do too. Dreams do come true and the sky’s the limit. I would like to advise people who are looking for a career transition or skill improvement, my one and only pit stop would be enrolling yourself at Great Learning.
