“Upskilling bridged the career gap of 5 years”, says Akancha Srivastava. Read further to learn more about her journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in her own words.
I am an IT professional with four years of experience as a QA Analyst. After my son was born, I had to take a break to care for my two kids. It took me almost five years to get back to work. I was doing courses on udemy and used to update all my learning to Linkedin to get better visibility. That is when one of my friends told me about a data science course. When I read what data science is all about, it immediately caught my attention, and I knew this was something I would be able to do. I was a full-time mom for the last five years. But that urge to get back to work was always there.
As earlier said, I was trying to get back to work. I used to go for recruitment drives and interviews. I used to always feel that so much had changed, and I needed to learn so many things to get back to work.
I spoke to some of my friends before taking up this course with Great Learning, and all of them told me that it is a great course and you are definitely going to learn a lot. The online medium was absolute bliss for me as I was able to stay at home, study as well as take care of my kids.
The Mentored learning sessions were awesome. Some of the professors who really made concepts very clear were Animesh Tiwari, Karuna Kumari, Mukesh Rao, Satish Sir, and many more. The sessions were really good, and they used to explain real-world scenarios, which gave a lot of clarity as to what actually happens, how things work in the data science field. Mentor Satish sir was really helpful in the whole program. He used to clear all my doubts during the class.
I got recruited as a Data Analyst in Deloitte through GL Excelerate, which was the motive of doing the course. One of the reasons why I went with Great Learning was the fact that they provide job assistance.
I would just say it is an amazing field; just read about it online, and if it interests you, please go ahead and get this skill added as I feel it is so interesting. There is nothing like just a concept. You can visualize things and understand what actually happens in the real world.
