I have been a UNIX admin in my entire career of 16yrs. Last year I got an opportunity to work on a new project, UNIX OS patching using API, and developing a user-friendly portal solution. The willingness and requirement to learn new technology were because UNIX is getting obsolete.
I started to research new technologies in the market to enhance my skill. I had two options, either look for the skills related to my technology or do something different. Going with the second one could have possibly turned out to be a risky venture.
Great Learning webinar on Machine Learning and one-to-one follow-up sessions convinced me to go with a Data Science program. Initially, I thought it would be very easy for me to learn, and I was also very excited about it. As the first module was a python and would be helpful in my current field as well, I was very much interested to learn it. To a greater extent, I was able to crack it, and I thought, ok, this is going to be a cakewalk. Excitement was all vanished with the second module as the outcome was not as per the expectation after studying really hard. This made me think if I had made the right decision or am I going to waste my time and effort.
I kept going with every module, sacrificing weekends and managing other personal and professional work with the course. It wasn’t easy, but the support I had received from Great Learning Program Managers (LAKSHAY BHATIA) during the course was very helpful, which kept me motivated.
Mentors play an extremely vital role in the learning journey. I am thankful to my mentors, who have helped me with practical academic knowledge and used different approaches to make sure that our concepts are cleared.
The entire curriculum is systematically designed to have a quick recap as per the convenience of potential students.
I now feel that the decision made a year ago and all the hard work has finally provided me with a new dimension to my knowledge and career. This is just the beginning in the field of Data Science for me, but the knowledge I possess now will definitely take me to new heights. I myself can see my approach has developed in my work pattern.
I would like to advise: If someone wants to grow and learn in the field of data science, they should first get some basic idea on it. If you are still interested in the transition, Hurray!!! You can crack it.
Having good knowledge of stats, maths, and basic python will surely help you in this field. If not, this Post Graduate program is designed to make you learn all these here.
