I am Sankara Narayanan, having 18 + years of experience in the IT industry. I have done my Electronics and Communication Engineering, Masters in Information Technology, and Masters in Business Administration. I work for a Multinational Bank. I was a Risk & Governance SME, I oversaw different types of Risks like Financial Risk & Operational Risk and overlaid the Governance Framework.
Generally, I used to upskill myself every 3 years to match industry standards and fulfill the industry requirements. As a part of the financial industry, we play with a huge amount of data, and many times we try to get some business benefit out of this data. At some point of some time, I realized that I needed a structured method of analyzing and understanding the data, so I decided to learn the methodologies that would help me to understand the concepts completely and took up the PGP AIML Course.
My capstone project is a prediction of Covid 19. When we brainstormed for the capstone, the first thing what I looked for, the scenario should be current and the data should be fresh and the solution should provide a mechanism to realize and predict based on the symptoms, geography, and a few other basic details like smoking & drinking habits.
Whenever you start analyzing the data, the first pain point would be the authenticity of the data, and it should not be biased. We struggled a lot to gather the data from the different sources. At the same time, it is a global scenario, so we decided to collect the data from different regions.
As I come from the financial domain, understanding the medical terminologies becomes real hard. I had to put a lot of effort and connecting with people to get an understanding.
Mentors play a crucial role in the capstone project. As I mentioned earlier, I come from the financial domain, and my mentor helped me to come out of my comfort zone. She gave me a lot of information related to this concept and helped me in getting some references.
Coming to a model selection, definitely we go with the prejudice of using some know models. My mentor helped in understand the data and choose the right model to fit into this project.
I can very much assure you that this capstone project would help in understanding different scenarios and help in predicting the Covid 19 suspects based on a few symptoms.
The organizations would largely get benefited from these models by understanding the true – false scenarios, and definitely, they can come up with the predictive mechanism to protect the suspects (patients) at the same time, they can grow substantially in terms of business as well.
Before the capstone, I look at every piece of data to find some monetary benefits to the organization. I started realizing and understanding the importance of data in terms of the meaningful information we are extracting from the data. Of course, these data would give a pattern that will help grow your business.
The advice I would give to the people who have just started the course is that I would strongly suggest everyone learn the concepts with full understanding. This course is prudently structured in a way to learn many things through the blended mode of learning.
The classroom sessions would help you network with different audiences, and the learning from everyone is enormous. You will be exposed to different industries and different scenarios to use the model effectively.
