I am Chaitali Bhattacharjee working in an MNC for the last 7 year as a Business Intelligence consultant. After working with tools like Tableau, Qlikview as a data analyst I started developing my interest in the Data science area. But it was never a concrete, well planned path.
Then I came across the PG certificate program from Great Lakes Institute and University of Texas (PGP-DSBA). To be honest I was not sure at first of enrolling in this course but with each passing day my confidence levelled up. Gradually I have started gaining confidence in Python, Statistics then Advanced data science topics like Time series, Machine learning, Text analytics etc. The journey was never easy. It takes a lot of your precious time, patience. Sometimes it felt like in the middle of the course I was lost, self doubt whether this 11months hardship will make any sense.There was pressure from personal front as weekends (as i am a working professional) were getting invested in studies.
The best way to handle this pressure is to attend the mentoring sessions and some brushups before the session. In my case mentors helped me alot, be it on the sessions or off the class. They are always available via social media, phone calls. They guided us really well and also referred to many books, Journals and links .
It’s okay if among all the subjects, we are not that strong in one or two subjects. Don’t get panicked, that’s my advice. Take a break, give yourself some relaxation and come back. The most beautiful, rich phase in this program in terms of knowledge is the “Capstone Project”. It will not only make you self independent while solving an entire industrial real time scenario but also at the end of it you come out with a thirst to gain more knowledge in different Data science terms, methods etc.
Definitely, by the end of the program the knowledge you gained will open a door to the vast world of Data science as a data scientist role. And trust your mentors if you have doubt or conflicts, raise it but don’t stop learning.
