Upskilling in the field of Artificial Intelligence can prove to be very beneficial for your career and help you power ahead. Read about Shree Vidhya’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Course in her own words.

When I heard about the PGP-AIML program, I was just four months into my job. It was a phase wherein I was still getting adjusted not only to the business flow and the technologies but also to the pressures of the job and the nature of the work. I was also brushing up on python programming and statistics in my spare time since I had started. I had taken a couple of short courses in college in these areas, and so I had started picking up from where I had left off.

I now have two years of industrial experience. I am working as a Software Developer mainly focused on Microservices and Java-based middleware.

Before joining this program, I knew that I wanted to somehow get into analytics, but since I had just entered the industry, I wasn’t completely sure how much exposure I needed in order to help make the transition. In addition, since I was very new to my job at the time and learning what I needed to for that, for a period there, I felt it somehow was not the right time to make the switch and that I needed to first focus on the project at hand.

I heard about the program and had made a mental note to enroll about a year later once I was settled into my job. I recognized that this course would really bolster my ambition to get into analytics; however, my main apprehension was managing multiple things at once. I was still learning the ropes and the prospect of taking on this course at that time seemed a little daunting. But that concern was mitigated as soon as I spoke to a contact from the admissions office, who assured me about the flexibility and the fact that this course was designed for people working full time and looking for a transition. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but it’s just one of those things you know is going to be 100% worth it!

These sessions proved to be very important as they were a platform for us to voice our questions and exchange ideas and opinions both with the mentor as well as between team members, especially during the Capstone project.

The mentoring sessions proved to be very useful in several ways. First, they provided a rundown on the content covered during the course of the week. The mentors also shared their own inputs into the topics. It was also a platform for everyone to voice questions and get them clarified. My mentor was a vital part of the learning process, particularly during the Capstone project. The weekly meetings, the suggestions provided when we were stuck, and the continuous feedback all proved invaluable.

By being a part of this program, I now have a strong foundation that I can build upon, which will expedite my transition towards a career in analytics. This is just the beginning, and I am looking forward to expanding my skillset further.

My advice to people starting with analytics would be to establish a rock-solid foundation with the basics. Don’t be afraid to take the plunge no matter what obstacles stand in your way. Put in the extra effort, work hard, and keep on learning!!
