Learning new concepts and implementing them at work can be very exciting and can open up new career avenues. Read further to learn about Goskonda Kishore Kumar’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Course in his own words.
I come from a Civil Engineering background. I did my Master in Earthquake Engineering and am currently working as a Structural Design Engineer, and I have 5-years of experience. As the Data Science field is growing every day, the biggest challenge for me was how to make a transition into the data science field without any prior knowledge of coding or the software industry. I had come across an idea where the concepts of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning could be applied in Earthquake Engineering to predict earthquakes using past data, which excited me and made me decide to get more hands-on knowledge about AI & ML. That is when I joined the Machine Learning program with Great Learning.

I struggled in programming initially, but my constant efforts made it easy for me, the same implies even now. After completing my AIML course, Great Learning helped me prepare a resume with their career guidance feature. It helped me get shortlisted, and I worked as an intern for 8-months to gain more knowledge about the industry which helped me further in cracking my interview with Wipro.
Learning about a new field after my working hours was one of the biggest challenges in my career. I have learned countless things in this career transition period. Yes, there were downfalls, but my final goal always kept me awake and pushing me forward. The lectures by Great Learning faculties and the weekend classes by the industry experts had a significant impact on my learning as my mentors helped me towards my new journey. The career guidance by Mr. Suvjit Sir (my mentor at the time) and his tips helped me immensely in getting a job. The PGP-AIML curriculum is very well designed, and that helped me in the stable learning of the concepts.
I am very excited to join this new role and want to excel in this field.
My next move would be to learn more and make my mark in the AI/ML domain. For those who are interested in having a career transition into the Machine Learning industry, I would encourage them by saying that if “I could do it, you can do it as well.” Keep your efforts constant, and never lose hope!
