Upskilling is key to ensuring that you stay relevant in an ever changing field. Read about Ravi’s journey with Great Learning’s Business Analyst Certification Program.
What is your professional background?
I am from a Mechanical Engineering background and I graduated in 2010 from NIT Trichy. I have around 7 years of experience in structural engineering, power plant design engineering, etc. I did an executive MBA from IIM Calcutta and that is when I developed an interest in data science. I started working with a startup as a Business Analyst.
Why did you choose Great Learning to learn Analytics?
I took up this program when I was doing my MBA. It was during my MBA that I got to know about the field of Data Analytics. Since my course was focussed more on manufacturing and there weren’t many opportunities in that field, I wanted to take up something that helps me transition into analytics and is available online, so I opted for BACP at Great Learning. As I didn’t have any electives on data science in MBA, I picked up this program to add value. Great Learning had started the BACP long before other platforms like Udemy, Coursera, and UpGrad. Whatever is possible in 6 months was delivered completely with good mentors and session recordings as well.

How did you manage your work responsibilities and the program requirements?
It was challenging for me to manage my MBA and BACP, but it was not hectic because of the convenience & flexibility the institute provided in the entire span of 6 months.
Did the career support offered by Great Learning help you transition to an Analytics career?
Post completion of the course, the career support was amazing even though this is an online program. I think that is why people choose Great Learning over others, as it provides all possible assistance which they promised at the beginning of the course. I had applied for the role which was shared by Great Learning via Excelerate. I was shortlisted and attended the drive at Arcadis and got selected as a project consultant.
What advice would you like to give to the aspirants?
I took a lot of online programs over the last few years, but the main advantage of the Great Learning program over them, is the career assistance during the course and also after the completion of the program. The only thing that a candidate should do is be attentive and determined to put all the effort to get the best out of the program. There are so many opportunities out there in the field of data analytics that are achievable with your dedication and smart work.
