I have done my MBA in HR and computers and with an overall experience of 11+ years as an HR professional working with various organizations. Read further to learn more about my journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in my own words.
I have always wanted to work with data. Since I was working as an HR professional, I always had access to different Employee Data and I had to present various reports and Dashboards to the leadership team. The major challenge was to get information from the data. I was not equipped with the required advanced skills to make these reports and dashboards talk in terms of numbers. I was searching and exploring different tools to get my work done. The majority of which was on MS Excel.
While working in an analytics company, I started building interest to know and understand the nature of work in the organization. Having a BCA degree really helped me understand the job and its requirements. I often attended the best practice sharing session conducted by employees and this really motivated me to take further steps towards transitioning my career to a Data Science role. Explored various options on the internet to get a good course and also read reviews of students who had taken up this course. I found very good reviews about Great Learning and hence chose Great Learning. After working in a non-technical profession for 11+ years, the initial fear is always about “Will I be able to cope up and learn the topics covered in the course and complete it ?”. I did a lot of background checks and took some counseling sessions to get the initial confidence to kick start. The initial 2 weeks, when the course began, was also a little challenging in terms of getting to know the tools required for the course. But the mentors, the program managers, and the help desk are very supportive. They literally do a hand holding until you feel confident to move further.
The mentored learning sessions are absolutely very important. A lot of doubt clearing and enhanced learning happened during these sessions. My mentor was a really very hands-on technical person.
For me, I would definitely say that I have learnt a lot more and understood the concepts clearly with the help of mentored learning sessions. A big thanks to my mentor Shohel.
The mentored learning sessions are truly knowledge imparting and are very structured. The topics covered in the pre-recorded videos are elaborately explained with hands-on exercises in these sessions.
To me, my mentor has been a very important person without whom I would probably not have excelled during my learning journey. He was very approachable and always willing to clear my doubts. He always made me feel that there is a strong pillar that I can always rely on for any of my learning needs during the program.
I have now learnt a lot of new skills after completing this course and now I am looking forward to starting my career in Data Science. As of now, the accomplishment that I have is the confidence to work on Data Science projects.
I personally feel that anyone who wants to start a career in analytics can blindly choose Great Learning. It has a very systematic and tailored curriculum that will help you build the required skills in just the way it is required. Do not get bogged down if you are not able to understand or get the concepts in the very beginning but stay focused and I am sure you will get there. There is a lot of practice that is required to master this skill and also a sufficient amount of practice material is made available to you. If a non-technical student like me could complete this course with excellent grades it is only because of the wonderful learning experience provided by Great Learning.
