Taking up an online course can help you enhance your career are skills. Read further to learn more about Vompolu Sai Tanuj’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in his own words.

This is Vompolu Sai Tanuj from Visakhapatnam. Currently, I have been offered a job at Kanini as a Data Science associate- Software development from the GL excelerate, the institute’s very own platform for alumni of the Great Learning. The platform for career assistance and job portal focusing on analytics.

I was also once an aspirant intrigued by the world of ‘what data and analytics offered to the world.’ I was a B.Com Computer science graduate before I joined the prestigious program offered by Great Lakes, Post Graduation in Business Analytics and Business Intelligence-Online (Now known as Post Graduate Program in Data Science and Business Analytics). The vast curriculum and the dual certification offered in collaboration with McCombs School of Business, the University of Texas at Austin, were what pulled me to join this program. These two things made the choice of joining Great Learning easier.

Even though I had a background in Computer Science, it was still tough getting into analytics. The process of learning all the statistical concepts and perfecting all the coding techniques in the R programming language posed a challenge for me. Understanding the data patterns, doing a proper analysis, etc., were all quite difficult for me at the beginning.

Luckily, I wasn’t alone in facing these challenges. We had mentoring sessions, which were a huge part of the program. A special mention goes to CV Sai Krishna, who was the mentor for our batch (PGP DSBA 2019-2020). He would always encourage us to push ourselves while guiding us towards the right way. He would help us with the coding errors we got and was also explaining concepts to us along with real-life examples of him using these concepts in real-world problems during his career. The challenges that I was facing before didn’t challenge anymore after a month. His guidance has made me so proficient in R Programming and all the analytics concepts that we would be doing most of the projects ourselves. Without my mentor, I would still be standing and looking at the vast world of analytics without foraging into it.

I would like to thank Sai Krishna, who guided me on every step throughout the program, and all the program managers who helped us sail through the program successfully.

Coming out of the program one year later, I was an expert in concepts of Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, and Machine Learning, along with proficiency in the tools of R Programming, KNIME, and Tableau. I had a working knowledge of these concepts, having participated in capstone projects and hackathons.

To all the aspirants out there, know that the world of analytics is challenging, but once you go through all those challenges, you will become part of this wonderful world of analytics. Proper dedication from self and guidance from the Great Lakes program mentors will always put you on the right track and teach you to be the best at what you do. I assure you that the journey from being an analytics aspirant to landing an analytics job is going to be an incredible one once you have a partner like Great Learning.
