“Change is the only constant in life” – Heraclitus
Having taken a break from work after 7+ years in the IT industry, I had to face all the challenges that are involved in getting back to work. But along with the challenges, I also had a chance to review the direction of my career and make a transition if possible.
I have always loved to be a problem solver who can make a tangible difference. Searching for an area that can utilize this skill along with my technical, business, and communication skills is what brought me to Data Science.
Today, data-based intelligence is a need and not a luxury. Gone are the days when businesses were run on instinct and experience alone. To face and to prevail in today’s cut-throat competition, businesses need a scientific tool to guide their business decisions and lead them towards success. I really want to be a significant part of that.
The Great Learning (GL) program, Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA) is a great companion on this path. They start from the very basics and provide a gamut of courses that help in understanding the various dimensions of Data Science and its applications. From courses on basic statistics to Financial and Risk Analytics, this program offers opportunities for a lot of learning in varied areas.
All the professors are very knowledgeable and friendly. They teach the courses in an interesting and interactive way which enhances the learning process. This is augmented by lots of offline learning materials. GL also has a dedicated career service called Excelerate, which helps students with information about job openings, relevant prep sessions, and continuous guidance in getting a job in Data Science. The guidance provided by GL in resume building and career counseling is helpful too.
Even during the Covid-19 pandemic chaos, GL was able to smoothly transition from classroom to online format for classes and was still able to help the learners get the maximum benefit of the program.
There were multiple pan-India hackathons conducted by GL, which helped me work with real data and made me understand where I stood among my peers. My capstone project was to predict the primary sales of an FMCG company under the guidance of our Program Director Dr. Srabashi Basu. It was a memorable experience for me where I got to learn a lot from my mentor and peers and got to work on a real-world business problem. Overall, I had a very good experience with this program and am now ready to embark on the professional world of Data Science.
Having finished my program in August 2021, I have transitioned into Deloitte Consulting for an Analyst role through GL’s Excelerate program. I really look forward to growing and reaching greater heights down the road.
