My peers recognized me as a budding data scientist and encouraged me – G Narendra

Hi, I am a PHARM-D (Doctor of Pharmacy) graduate working as a tech coordinator at a Fintech Startup in Bangalore. I was working as a CLINICAL DATA MANAGER before joining the PGP-DSBA program

Part of my current job is to ensure all the tech interviews happen smoothly, remove any hindrances, and provide a good interview experience to the candidates. Sometimes, we must cancel interviews for various reasons, either from the candidate or the interviewer. But sometimes, the interview cancellation rate has been increasing, and I wanted to find the common causes of interviews and find a solution. Still, the data is large, and just an excel analysis wasn’t enough to explain to my manager. I needed something more to make my analysis more interactive and easy for my manager to understand. The problem is the increasing number of interview cancellations, sometimes at the last moment. So I had to find the common cause of interview cancellations and find an optimal solution to reduce the rate of interview reschedules.

Interview cancellations at the last moment will give the candidates a bad experience, and this becomes even worse if the interview gets rescheduled multiple times.

I have used TABLEAU to visualize the data, create different charts, and analyze the data from the number of interview cancellations and reschedules vs. reasons for cancellations and hue being reasons (Candidate’s reasons VS Interviewer’s Reasons)

After visualizing the data, I identified the top 3 reasons from both candidate’s and interviewer’s side and explained them to my manager. For example, from the interviewer’s side, most of the interviews got canceled due to a critical project or may be on leave. I found this happened due to the absence of proper calendar marking by the respective interviewer and a communication gap between the recruitment coordinator and interviewer.

I suggested a proper intimation (status) on an interviewer’s google calendar to avoid unnecessary interview schedules, which can avoid this last-minute interview reschedules.

As a result, the interview cancellation rate came down by 30 % within 2 months, which drastically increased the quality of the interview experience for the candidates.

Well, after this, my peers recognized me as a budding data scientist and encouraged me to get into the data science department for an internship, which can give me a good chance to get corporate exposure in the FINTECH environment.
