If you are someone who’s interested in building a career in Data Science and Analytics, taking up a course to enhance your skills is always a great idea. Read further to learn about Abhinava Kumar Saha’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in his own words.

I am a Production Engineer, having 16 years of IT Application development and consulting experience in Banking, Healthcare, and Insurance domains.

Before joining this program, I managed the Data services portfolio for a leading global bank, which involved revamping the complete Trade finance solution to the latest COTS package integrating the core banking data sources and several other backend systems.

I always had good analytical ability, which had been appreciated by clients and colleagues all through my career.

I learned the Trade Finance domain and also cleared the International Trade Finance certification (from IIBF). But I was excited to get the exposure to such huge data and the chance to work with Python automation developers and Analytics experts, which kindled the desire to learn Data Science and Machine Learning to analyze such huge amounts of data.

For quite some time, I was exploring courses in Data science and analytics for career transition. That’s when I came across Great learning. I was excited to see the faculty members and the testimonials of learners. I initially opted for the weekend classroom program, but the COVID-19 pandemic made me rethink and switch to a fully online medium, which I was very happy about right from the first month. I was used to self-paced learning at my company; hence it was never a challenge.

The mentored learning session was the most exciting part of this journey. I am thankful to our mentor (Arindam Sir), who always encouraged healthy discussions, and all my batchmates, who helped clear all the key concepts by asking meaningful questions. The mentored learning session, doubt clearing session, and the industry session are very insightful and were the key part of developing the Analytics mindset to be able to apply the Machine Learning concepts. Even the feedback process after each session is well designed, where we can give appreciation as well as improvement suggestions to mentors. My industry experience, plus my mentor’s experience shared during the session, was the key differentiator for me to score 99.5% in the course.

I would like to motivate all those learners, who do not have prior Python or Data Science experience like me, to not get scared away, Great Learning’s Data Science and Business Analytics course covers it very well, and you will get confident with hands-on practice assignments and projects. Remember, the key to be successful in Data science is not just Python or ML algorithm knowledge. Those are just tools in the data scientist armory. The key differentiator is your analytical ability, which helps you to analyze the output of the algorithm and relate it back to business problems to draw meaningful insights and recommendations. So if you are confident in your analytical ability, then you will be able to get through this course with dedication, smart work, and practice.

Happy Learning!
