There were a lot of things that made my learning from good to great – Suraj Jadhav, PGP DSBA

Currently, I’m working as an Analyst at a “Great Place to Work®”, the global authority on building, sustaining, and recognizing High-Trust, High-Performance Culture at workplaces. Some of the responsibilities of my current role are –

  1. Use various techniques in statistics and machine learning to process and analyze data.
  2. Build models to probe what can be learned from data, both at a prototype and production level.
  3. Exploring new designs and insights that can be further used as new instruments and products for business.
  4. Work on prototyping new ML/DL models before handing them off to ML engineers for productionization.

I’m a former member of AIESEC – a non-governmental not-for-profit organization in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), affiliated with the UN DPI, member of ICMYO, and recognized by UNESCO that provides young people with leadership development, cross-cultural internships, and global volunteer exchange experiences.

Before the PGP in Data Science and Business Analytics, I have my academic background in Business Administration and Management Studies from Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK.

I was working as a web-analytics consultant for marketing agencies. One of the biggest challenges before joining the program w.r.t my career as a marketing professional was to make sense of data (from the digital campaigns) in a way that could help me deep-dive into understanding which were the contributing factors for success/failure of the same, as well as how can we provide more value to the clients by just not reporting what has been observed but providing insights from the data points received. The analysis/feedback was a summary of observations and not any business actionable to work upon.

At Great Learning, the admissions team helped me a lot in understanding the program structure/curriculum and how it could help me reach my end goals. As I could properly understand the previously mentioned points, I preferred GL Course over others. I didn’t get this much clarity and support from other courses I looked into. I had no reservations about learning through online mediums as in the past I had already completed a couple of short courses via similar learning methods.

As I mentioned earlier, although I had no apprehensions about learning online, there were a lot of things that made my learning from good to great – mentored learning sessions were amongst those. Such sessions not only helped me develop and apply the concept with the support of a truly experienced mentor but also assisted me in learning how the skills can be used in real-world scenarios as well. The quality of the mentored learning sessions was superb. I couldn’t have asked for better sessions. For example, we had short agendas such as room-breakout sessions to brainstorm on what has been learned for last week, which turned out to be very engaging for me. I’m grateful to the mentors for coming up with such initiatives.

I think if there is one person that has made the highest contribution in my journey to excel in an analytics role, it would be my mentor. For me, he played a very crucial role from learning new things to providing me with resources that can help me solve all the problems I had related to both – academics and work.
