I am currently working as a Senior Consultant in PwC with an experience of 4 years after completing my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Durgapur in the year 2017.
Before joining the program, I have been working in PwC India since July 2017 as Technical Consultant. I was promoted to Senior Consultant in April 2021. Now, I am working in the Data and Analytics team. My experience includes work in data modeling, reporting, and visualizations using SAP Tools like SAP Native HANA, SAP Webi Reporting, SAP Analytics cloud along with SQL, Excel, and Tableau.
As I have completed my bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and then joined PwC right after that, I started learning while getting the opportunity to work on that. My day-to-day tasks required analyzing data and generating insights from it. I was facing a challenge in doing so and was always wondering if there is a different way of doing it. I used to watch my seniors doing it very easily, getting their insights on data and giving solutions to business problems. I also wanted to learn the same. This problem made me feel limited and I wanted to overcome this limit.
While I was searching for a business analytics course that would help me to overcome my limitations and along with that I wanted to learn some reporting tools like PowerBI or Tableau, I found the course offered by Great Learning suitable for me and it was feasible to do without quitting my job so I opted for this. There were no such apprehensions in learning in an online medium though it gave me the flexibility to learn in my suitable timings.
The mentored learning session not only helped in clearing my doubts but also contributed to having an in-depth understanding of the topics. Mentors guided us to practice more and provided resources to learn with more examples. These sessions were interactive and we were given enough time to discuss our doubts. The one-on-one discussion was also feasible with the mentor. Apart from the mentored sessions, we had an opportunity to discuss the problem with peers in the group. The mentor has the same role which is played by a guide in an unknown place. They helped us to think of a way out by ourselves that made us learn more.
From my newly learned skills, I feel confident at my workplace as I need to handle huge data daily and this course helps me to apply my learnings there. Apart from that, I have more flexibility to choose work in tableau and data science with a business analytics role along with my current consultant role in SAP HANA.
Analytics can’t be taught from 0 to 100. It can be guided. We need to do the rest by ourselves. So I would like to advise all who are just starting with learning analytics to know your limits, weak points and work on that. Real-time data is huge in quantity and if we come with a bad analysis it would cost Millions. Learn carefully and apply wisely!
