I have 13 years of experience in the software industry handling various roles from development, design, coordination, implementation and support. My domain experience is in Banking, specifically in the payment domain (online or OLTP), and I have worked in various payment gateways like BASE24, EPOC, and Connex.

I was interested in Big Data and Hadoop technologies to start with and I stumbled upon the terminology “Analytics”. The key word fascinated me and learning more upon the nature of the job kindled my interest in it. I was looking for solid fundamentals and I came across an article in one of the online news channels about Great Learning conducting an online Post Graduate Diploma in Data Analytics/Data Science – Great Learning. Did some online research and along with details provided in the course brochure, I got a grasp on what I would be learning from the course. It sealed my association with the Great Learning for Data Analytics course.

The course starts from fundamentals. Pre-course learning was very crucial (for people from all disciplines of study). It helps to give a solid foundation on the fundamentals or what would be used in day-in day-out Data Analytics jargon. Once the course begins it is rigorous learning spending at least 8-10 hours per week and the course moves at a steady pace.

The structure of the course is also well thought out since it starts from programming languages first, moving to design principles in data model along with hypothesis and inferential statistics gives a good base to understand/work in various machine learning algorithms which follows and finally with Hadoop/Spark R/Hive. Additional learning along with practice exercises helps to give a sound understanding of said module. Along with the course content, frequent webinars or info sessions with professors and various industry mentors helps in clearing doubts on said modules.
