The world of technology is constantly evolving. To keep up with the changing trends, it is important to upskill. Read further to learn about Ashish Kumar’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Artificial Intelligence Course and how he implemented this learning at his workplace in his own words.
I have close to 16 years of working experience, and for the last ten years, I have been working closely with some of the biggest fintech companies around. Currently, I am working with one of the top industry leaders in the credit card division and managing one of their legacy billing and statement platforms as a subject matter expert. For some time being, I was looking to learn some niche skills to move from a traditional programming language to something more interesting. I was also bored doing the same monotonous job and wanted to shift to something exciting. That is where I came across the machine learning and artificial intelligence course online.
Although I started my journey in the Bioinformatics field based on the concepts of artificial intelligence itself, I could not pursue that path due to salary constraints despite having a keen interest in the same industry. Later I went through some articles and webinars to understand career opportunities and was convinced that the artificial intelligence and machine learning field is what I want to make my next move in. I started doing some internal courses available in the company and got certified as a machine learning modeler certificate.
I also implemented my learning in one of the problem areas of our platform where the business has to share a 6-month advance inventory requirement to our print vendor for printing and shipping statements and letters to our “card members.” This whole process was earlier manual and quite error-prone. I identified this as an opportunity to apply some of my machine learning concepts and got them automated. I came up with a model which could perform predictions by learning from the historical data set. I built a Time-Series Regression Model with an R2 score of more than 90%, which was much better than the manual predictive system being worked upon by a team of 5-6 members. Despite having a limited AI/ML opportunity available on my platform, my introduced model had proven to be a great success for our team.
As I continue to learn new techniques and concepts in my current AIML – Online program, I eagerly look forward to having a successful transition into the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning career.
