Data Science and Analytics is a growing field and recruiters are actively looking to hire individuals with these skills. Read further to learn about Pratibha Gupta’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Analytics Course in her own words.

I am working as a Data Analyst in a cloud computing IT firm with 3+ years of experience in retail banking. I completed my bachelor’s in Applied Instrumentation and have very little coding exposure. After more than three years in Banking, I planned to look out for opportunities in the technical field and decided to switch my profile from core banking to the Analytical world, as I have some friends who were working in this domain and were doing great, learning new things every day.

But changing my domain came with its own limitations where the market was demanding experienced analysts with hands-on experience. I did some research and surfed a lot of courses presented on different online portals, but it was missing either in terms of hands-on or direct interaction with the mentors. Then I came to know about the Great Lakes  Business analyst post-graduate program and how it is helping working executives to shape up their careers.

The prospectus includes in-depth coverage of different technologies, various modules. The best thing I found about this course was that it allowed me to explore and come back with all my doubts to our trainers, who will answer them in the classroom sessions or through the online portal. I opted for offline classroom training which is scheduled during the weekends. Apart from the course, It helped me to know about other people from different organisations and their work cultures. This made me more aware about the new domain I will be entering in a few days.

Due to conflicting working hours for me, I had to leave my job in Aug 2019 and decided to focus on the course. The situation became even worse with the pandemic as there was a complete lockdown and there were no jobs in the market. But thanks to Great lakes as they helped in making a good resume and provided good career sessions and mentors who really helped in updating us time to time about new technologies and how it is used in all the leading companies, which increased my interest.

On the positive side of this pandemic, it gave me more time to work on my skills and to go through companies’ profiles and their requirements. This helped in understanding the requirement and profile better. After going through multiple interviews, voila. I got the opportunity as a data analyst in a cloud computing company Blazeclan Technologies.

Today industries are much more evolved with new changes brought by pandemic. Now there are more opportunities to explore, learn and adapt. It is all about accepting the challenge and giving it a try. I don’t think that women are out of data science, it is just about priority and interest. There is a misconception about the course that it is very time-consuming and difficult to follow but it is not the case. I would like to add that WE as women take so much responsibility for ourselves that we sometimes let go of opportunities professionally, which is not the right decision to take.

Today I have no regrets about my decisions or choices and trust me I am a new person in my professional and in my personal life.
