Do It Your Way has always been my way of life ever since I can remember. I went to college, was placed at NTT Data as a Software QA, learnt a lot of new things. But after a couple of years, I started feeling that my learning curve is not improving, the work isn’t intriguing and my skill set is becoming more outdated. That is when I decided it’s time to acquire new skills and look for something where I get to learn new things every day and always stay aligned with the new market trends to make a difference.
After a bit of research, I realized that Data Science and Analytics is a field that I should start looking into because it is something that is very widely used in almost every industry across the globe. It is part of our daily life from Entertainment to Retail, Healthcare to Banking, Online retail to Supply chain management, Insurance to Airlines and the main objective always being Problem solving or Business improvement which was quite interesting and caught my attention.
Finalizing Great Learning’s classroom program in Data Science and Business Analytics came after a lot of research and considerations and the main reason I opted for this was that the program is specially designed for working professionals. Since I wasn’t ready to quit my job to pursue PG, this program was a great blessing. Also, the syllabus of the course was very well-structured starting from the basics of statistics which I believe is the best foundation for anyone working with Data.
Most of the time you find women struggling to strike a balance between personal and professional life, in cases like that investing time to pursue a domain like Data Science which is relatively new is a huge challenge for many. I’m thankful to have a very understanding family and husband who supported me throughout this journey. Being a non-programmer myself and being very new to Statistics, the initial month was very difficult but once I was able to wrap my head around it, things started becoming better and in the following months I didn’t find this program difficult to follow because a little investment of time is all you need to put in to get the best out of it. In my opinion if we want to encourage women to join Data Science we should try and build a new perception around it that Anybody can do it with a little commitment.
Analytics is a great field if you love to make a difference and solve problems for the Business, never let any other fear conquer you because if you believe you can, everything else will just fall in place.
I’m really happy with the skill sets that I have acquired from Data Science and a special thanks to Great Learning for helping me land a new job as Business Analyst at Indegene. My Transition is My Story, so never be afraid of doing things your own way.
