Tell us about your professional background and work experience?
I completed my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in 2014. Then I joined Exide industries as a production supervisor. After working for 2 years, I decided to quit my job and pursue an MBA. After 2 unsuccessful attempts at CAT, I decided to get back into the industry. I felt that learning a new skill would help me get better opportunities. I chose Data Science because I loved mathematics and statistics.
Why Great Learning?
After deciding to upskill in the Data Science domain, I conducted some research and found out about Great Learning. I was not inclined towards online courses and GL was the perfect choice for me. Most students attending the PGP- Data Science and Engineering course were from a non-IT background and the course was designed keeping that in mind.
How did you feel about the PGP DSE program?
The faculty ensured that the basics were covered. I was able to slowly develop pace and contrary to my presumptions, I didn’t find it difficult. The faculty put in a lot of time and attention towards us. They even repeated sessions when required. This was very helpful to me. The team was always available and helped us to thoroughly prepare for interviews. Regular suggestions and feedback were provided and this helped me improve my skills.
Was the mentorship beneficial?
Assignments, mini-projects, and routine tests helped us constantly practice and sharpen our knowledge about the various course topics such as Python, SQL and Machine Learning. Mock interviews were conducted and the interviewers were experienced. They gave us valuable insights into the interviews. They told me about my strengths and weaknesses and how I can improve my skills. The entire team was very supportive and I was able to get interviews at companies such as Genpact, Nielsen, and more. The guides who helped during the project session were industry experts, thus, knowing exactly how to help us.
