Tell us about your professional background and work experience.
Being an Electrical Engineer, I started my career in the IT industry. I worked with Cognizant for about 3 years as a Software Quality Engineer. Initially, I gained experience in both manual and Automation Testing. After 2 years I felt that this was monotonous. That’s when I joined GreatLearning’s PGP-DSBA program to upskill and stay relevant in the future. A few Alumni from Great Learning advised me to take up the DSBA Course as this would help me in my career transition.
How did you feel about the course structure?
The curriculum covers different tools and domains. The faculty interaction was helpful. I started exploring different tools such as Python, R, Tableau, SAS and had hands-on exercises through all assignments conducted by this program. Every concept was followed by discussion questions, a quiz, and an assignment. Faculty such as Dr. P.K.Viswanathan, Raghav Shyam, Vivek & Gurumoorthi helped us to learn faster. Their style of teaching involved extensive examples. The course structure was great.
Was the capstone project helpful?
Our project guide, Dr.D.Narayana, helped us at every step of the capstone project. Initially, we were skeptical about how to proceed, but he exceptionally motivated us. I gained skills in exploring a new concept called NLP(Natural language Processing). Since its a research project, we have published our project in a well-reputed Journal. I was asked about my capstone project in every interview I attended and it helped me a lot. Even in my Genpact interview, the capstone played an important part in the hiring process.
Was PGP- DSBA helpful in your career transition?
Great Learning’s PGP-DSBA program helped to leverage my skills in Statistics, Machine Learning and Data visualization. I was technically sound with different Machine learning concepts before giving my interviews. All my Interaction with Industry mentors and faculties helped me deal with real-time business problems and find solutions using Analytics. Great Learning’s Excelerate Program has bridged the gap between the right skill and the right job opportunities for my next role. I got selected at Genpact through Excelerate for a Business Analyst Role and it helped me immensely in my career transition.

Any advice for PGP- DSBA aspirants looking for an Analytics role?
As long as you have your eyes on the goal, you don’t see obstacles. Goals lead to purpose in life. It doesn’t matter where we are today, what matters is the direction we are heading in. The course will ensure that your statistical foundation is strong. I am from a Software Quality background but I leveraged my skills in R, statistics, and Machine Learning concepts. You don’t require any coding experience or prior knowledge before starting. I was completely satisfied with the way we were taught various analytics concepts.
