I have pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technical University and started my first job as a process engineer at Reliance India Limited. After qualifying for the GATE exam with AIR-178, I started working with Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the Business Development Group and looked after sales of Petrochemicals. Currently, I am working as Assistant Manager in Corporate Planning and Economic Studies (CP&ES) of Indian Oil. In total, I have over 7 years of work experience.
The lockdown in March 2020 gave me enough time for self-introspection and made me realize what exactly I needed on the personal and professional front. Once, while browsing through articles on LinkedIn, I was struck by the line “When you say you have 5 years of work experience, is it really 5 years of experience or is it 1 year of experience done 5 times over?
I had always believed in continuous learning and updating my skills. But, after getting comfortable in my new job role I never realized acquiring new skills other than excelling in the routine 9 to 5 work.
I then came across the course of Post Graduate Program in Data Science and Business Analytics offered by Great Learning. Firstly, after having a look at the course content, I was skeptical if this path was for me as I belonged to a non-coding background. The second concern was that the batch was to start from July and post three months I was getting married. Learning altogether about a new field of data analytics and managing work and family life was making me think twice before joining. Thirdly, since it required a certain investment, it was an online course worth this investment since we are accustomed to classroom learning.
But today I thank God, family members, my friends and Great Learning mentors and the program manager with whose support I could complete this course with flying colours.
