It’s an immense pleasure joining Great Learning. An amazing opportunity to learn data science concepts, says Saikarran, an alumnus of the PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course by Great Learning. Read further to learn more about his journey.
I am Sai Karran MK from Chennai. I am a B.Com graduate from Loyola College, Chennai, and a professional Yoga practitioner, a football goalkeeper, an ambivert in nature, and I love to read British classics books. I am a broad-minded guy who wants to be different and stand out from the crowd. People follow the same path that a successful person paves to avoid risks, but I wanted to break this trend.
My passion is to study Computer Science. But we all have that “one relative” in our family, so I took Commerce in my high school. After completing high school, I was blank and frustrated that I couldn’t pursue my passion. Then I joined Loyola College, which allowed me to learn what I always wanted to. In my college days, I got introduced to “Data Science”. It is a new term or subject which I heard. I did a plethora of research and decided that this was going to be my career.
I was focused and stubborn that I wanted to pursue my career in the Data Science field. I compared a lot of other colleges and websites that provide Data Science. I decided to pursue my Data Science career in Great Learning. “It’s flexible timings, well-designed curriculum, world-class faculties, industry expert’s mentorship, amazing support from program managers, etc..”
There are no challenges professionally. Money was the only problem. It was a huge risk that I had to decide. From uploading documents till the loan approval process, I was tensed that “what if anything goes upside down? “. After confirmation of my loan approval, I was joyous and, at the same time, focused on what should be my next step. I wanted to prove myself. “Step out of your comfort zone” is the first and foremost decision in my life.
This is my first career path as a “Data Scientist”. It is a new field that has a prominent growth. “Find your destination; the path will be paved”- I realized this after my college days. So try to find your destination.
I had an offer letter from an MNC company, and it’s a Program Management Office (PMO) Analyst. Suddenly, I received another call from the data science company for which I am currently working. I attended the telephonic round and got selected. They mentioned a Case study round. The only expectation is to sum up, insights of the data within the specified duration.
Great Learning boosted my career and gave me an amazing opportunity. I am so grateful for this job, but this is the first step. I am learning. Making mistakes is common but learning from that is your talent . Mindset, Critical thinking, and Constant Learning are important in this field. You have to think, feel the data science. It is an art, and you are the creator and craft your tools to create a better artist.
One thing I would suggest is that “Fitting and providing good accuracy is not your job”. You have to learn and apply in the right way to derive better results. You are a bridge connecting the business and IT fields. They both can’t understand their functions. Most of the Data Scientists spend 60% of their work on EDA, and the remaining 40% is data modeling and fitting”. Explore new methods and write codes efficiently when you get experience. Learn behind the math of each machine learning algorithm practically and statistics as well. Have a flow of concept of what is your next process and note down what are your business requirements and your expectations, and try to prove by hypothesis testing.
