I have about 27 years of technology experience, out of which 25+ years are in Banking Technology with international experience. I have held various roles starting as a test lead, production implementation specialist, software architect, business analyst, program manager, and, latest, as an SRE head. I have been happily married for 21 years with a lovely wife and 3 daughters and currently residing in Chennai.
Before my current role of SRE, I was the India Head of FX/OPS Technology for another Bank responsible for solution delivery. My current role is to keep the banking systems safe, secure and reliable, and stable. It restricts me from having access to code (program) and relying completely on the delivery team.
I had a colleague who’d recommended the institution and the PGP AIML course. I did some research and spoke to a few more colleagues who provided positive feedback on the curriculum. I was provided with a 6-month course for Management with lesser hands-on program experience vs. a 12 months course with hands-on experience. I, of course, chose the latter.
I normally go through the online videos and mark all the questions/doubts and wait for the weekly mentor class to get the doubts clarified. The weekly mentoring sessions have been great for me, and I have been blessed with a great mentor who has the rich industry experience and provides a very relevant and important practical approach to all the modules. I always look forward to the weekly session. The quality of the mentoring lesson has been great so far, and I thoroughly enjoy it.
Our mentor has been the bridge and provided us with a practical angle to all the modules. He challenges us to come up with multiple solutions and never provides a direct answer -but guides us in the right direction. Python was new to me, and I am happy that I learned a new technical skill. It also helped me brush up on the statistical skills that I learned multiple decades ago.
Various module projects that we have completed provided exposure to different business problems and analytical skillsets to understand those. Projects also allow us to explore the various readily available third-party tools/modules that are available which can do the jobs quickly and efficiently. (panda_profile and Pycaret are few to name) and various other visualization tools
Keep your eyes and ears open. Keep challenging the status quo, and you can stay relevant. All the best!
