Super excited to share that I successfully completed with top grades in my academic journey – PGP in Data Science and Business Analytics with Great Learning. They say it’s never too late for #learning. That’s indeed true when I enrolled for this intensive 1-year program in Nov 2019 run by GL & its team of esteemed Faculties.
To be candid, I was initially hesitant to go back to grass-roots learning after 23 years of my student life (with my own kid in high school now) & a successful Leadership position in the industry, I felt that I had already accomplished & not too keen. I always had a curiosity about data, and my Leadership role demanded a deeper understanding of data, especially with more & more use cases dealt with using Cognitive Sciences.
Looking back, I must say this has been the best decision in my career. I have a newfound love for data, and the program helped me with a deeper appreciation of data & data science. The experience & the learning left me craving for more and more, and I am looking at taking on another exec program. The course also helped me sharpen my problem-solving skills & my ability to conceive data science use cases.
For 3 months, the sessions were conducted in the classroom, quite intensive & the day-long residency sessions were nostalgic and exactly “Back to the School.” The program has been carefully structured to cover the width of data science right from Statistics, Advanced Statistics to Machine Learning models, Python programming, Tableau, Data Mining, Time Series Forecasting, Finance & Risk Analytics, and Marketing & Retail Analytics. The entire course has been designed to cover the gamut of data science with a series of carefully designed quizzes, individual assignments, group assignments for each topic culminating with a capstone project of real-world data science use cases.
Due to the Covid Pandemic, the program got shifted mid-way from an on-premises residency course to online delivery. However, Great learning Faculties took immense efforts & initiative to ensure the program delivery was conducive for online learning. All respect to all my Faculties Gurumoorthy Pattabiraman, Dr. PKV, Raghavshyam (Shaam) Ramamurthy, who went to the lengths to impart the best learning experience for all the students. The presentations and lectures delivered by Great Learning and the faculty were very insightful and interactive.
One of the endearing role reversal moments was when my kids cheered me to finish the assignments when I was sweating and racing against timelines, enquiring about my marks and checking the live Leaderboard scores after each course. I used to worry when I missed the mark here or there as I was always trying to be at the top of the “Leaderboard,” and my kids used to encourage me.
The quiz, assignments, and Capstone gave me a good adrenaline rush, and I enjoyed every aspect of the learning. Solving each Problem statement by building various machine learning models using the Predictive, Prescriptive methods learned in the course was truly a wonderful experience.
