I am Gaurav Jain, and I am currently working as a Project Manager with Times Internet Limited, a subsidiary of TimesGroup, in their US AD Sales department. I never thought of getting into marketing and sales, not before 2017. I did my graduation in Civil Engineering and posted that. I was looking for a secure job in either govt. or bank services. But then life took me into operations of a multinational ad network, from where I started my journey into M&S.
After a short stint there, I moved to Accenture, where I was project managing the email marketing for one of the biggest search engines on the internet, and then via internal project changes, I was handling email marketing for the same client via Adobe Marketo. But then, after spending almost three years there, the role got pretty monotonous, and the scope of learning was narrowed. Moreover, I was looking for something wherein the growth was broad, and I could learn something new, which could help me with my job and help me grow in my career.
That’s when I decided to look for courses in Data Science and found about Great Learning’s DSBA program. Among other vendors and courses available in the market, I found it giving me the best value for money and, more importantly, providing me with the exact things I was looking for. Initially, I was a little worried about pursuing such a course as I had no coding experience, and my job roles were not even remotely related to what I was looking to learn. Also, I was a bit apprehensive about this new mode of learning world switching to online, but then I spoke to program managers of GL, and I was thoroughly convinced that this is the new normal and I will have to adapt to this.
The program has been designed in such a way that a novice like me was fully able to grab the concepts and eventually apply them to my current job profile. The lectures were so meticulous and methodical that I never felt that I didn’t come from a coding background.
After a week of self-paced studies, the mentor sessions were always scheduled so that we could clear our doubts and have a better practical understanding of whatever we learned in the past week. Even after the sessions, the mentors were always available to help whenever we were stuck. I would like to thank all of my mentors who helped me through the different modules. It’s because of them I feel confident in what I have learned during the course. It’s because of the newly acquired skills I’m outshining in my present profile.
When I joined Times there, US ad sales was a relatively new department, and it was our job to figure out the best ways to monetize and grow the revenue. It was because of these data science skills I was able to analyse the previous performances and forecast the upcoming numbers from different publishing partners. Anyone who has a particular interest in numbers and is willing to generate better insights from them should go for this particular course. I’m pretty sure you won’t regret it.
