Table of contents

One thing should always be kept in mind that the courses are designed according to the specific requirements, which means courses are made career specific. Each course has its own merits and features. After completion of schooling, it is often seen that students are confused as to which course would be better for them? For this, it is pertinent to mention that they should know what is their interest. Then think over it a hundred times, discuss with scholars and then only pursue a course to make your career bright. Here the discussion is about what to choose from BBA or B.COM?

Aim of the course:

Bachelors of Commerce (B.COM):

This course is especially designed for those who want to make their career in the field of taxation, finance and accounting.

Bachelors of Business and Administration (BBA):

The main focus of this course is to make students able to become entrepreneurs and play a key role in business administration.

Subjects:

Subjects Taught in B.COM:

Here students will find two options. One is regular B.Com where they are going to study subjects like finance, accounting, actuarial studies, economics, business law and business administration.

Nowadays industrial sectors are demanding graduates equipped with various special soft and hard skills. Considering this fact many education institutions have come forward offering a number of skills based courses alongwith the graduation. Therefore, considering the exigencies of time, if students club skills based courses with their graduation in the portfolio, then it would definitely help them to make them different from others standing with general graduation.

Second one is B.Com with Honours. To do this course students are required to secure high cutoff marks compared to the just B.Com pass students so as to ensure their admission in the renowned commerce universities and the prestigious institutions.

Subjects Taught in BBA:

Students who prefer pursuing BBA are going to study subjects like financial management, digital marketing, business operation and management, implementation of information and technology in business, human resource management, Fundamental of international business, retailing, etc. At the same time some more specialised courses are being offered by many education institutions like data science, family business and entrepreneurship, digital marketing and advertising, etc. Here, for students, it is suggested that before finalising any specialisation  they should do full research and go through the full syllabus.

Basic Qualification:

Basic Qualification for pursuing B.Com:

To do a B.Com course, the student should have qualified class 12th or any equivalent examination, in any stream. Sometimes many colleges ask at least 50% in the higher secondary examination. In addition, if someone has qualified it with the commerce stream then it becomes an additional advantage to get first preference.

Basic Qualification for pursuing BBA:

For pursuing BBA students are required to qualify their higher secondary exam in any stream with at least 50% minimum marks. Point to be noted that some colleges have their own eligibility criteria. Some colleges prefer those students who have completed higher secondary education with mathematics. They get first preference there.

Admission:

Procedure to get admission in B.Com:

Normally securing admission in a business college totally depends upon the marks obtained by the students in the higher secondary examination means class 12. But in some cases students have to appear and qualify entrance examinations if they want to get a seat in a renowned business college.

Procedure to get admission in BBA:

For getting admission for BBA, first students are required to meet the basic requirement of marks obtained in the higher secondary examination. Mostly, it is minimum 50% in many colleges. Then they are required to pass the entrance examination conducted by many education institutions.

Career:

Possibility of Career after B.Com:

The possibility of getting jobs for a commerce graduate totally depends upon whether he is only a commerce graduate or commerce graduate with honours. B.Com (Honours) degree comes with more specialisation skills as compared to simple B.Com and with these skills definitely confidence boost up and there are many doors open to work for those holding this.

Possibility of Career after BBA:

It is obvious that there is no bar for talented and deserving candidates. But this should also be kept in mind that colleges also play an important role because if you have done your graduation (BBA) from a renowned college then your chance of getting a job definitely increases. Mere graduation degree is not enough nowadays. Students should know that today’s corporate world is in search of a complete candidate. That means It is recommended that along with getting a degree they must do specialised skills based courses because this has become almost a compulsory requirement for getting jobs.

One more important thing should also be part of the discussion that is Internship. Students must be emphasised to do internships because it gives an exposure to a working environment where you can implement your learning in learning how an organisation or system works. Here students can convert their educational experience into working experience and this would be very useful in getting jobs in the corporate sectors. If an internship is done through a good organisation it will definitely add an advantage in making a career.

Opportunities:

Job Opportunity after B.Com:

After completion of B.Com (Honours) a number of job opportunities are available in the corporate sectors and government agencies. With their qualification students can play an important role in various positions such as  tax consultant, investment banker, accountant, chartered, sales manager, accountant, stock broker, etc.

Looking at the present scenario of the job market candidates have a lot of  opportunities to perform various roles in the field of administration, human resource management, operations management, finance sector, advertising, tourism, real estate, aviation etc.

Remuneration:

Remuneration for B.Com Graduates:

In general remuneration packages vary from company to company; and the positions for which candidates are applying for. Also if candidates have just general B.Com degree they get compensated less salary package as compared to others who have B.Com (Honours) degree. Still, if we look broadly, then, the starting salary of the candidates who just have a general B.Com degree starts with a salary package of 15 to 10 thousands per month only, whereas, the salary package of the B.Com (Honours) usually remains around 20 to 25 thousands per month.

Remuneration for BBA Graduates:

It depends on which college the students have done their graduation from. The better the college, the better the chances of getting a good salary package increase. It should always be kept in mind that every work has its own specialty. So obviously their remuneration also remains different. Now it depends on which position candidates are applying for. Generally it is seen that the starting salary package remains between 14 to 16 thousand. This salary package increases with their experiences. In addition, if students take their education qualification to a higher level then definitely they may get a higher salary package of 7 to 8 lakhs annually.

Higher Education:

Scope for higher education after B.Com:

If a B.Com graduate wants to enhance his educational qualification up to a higher level  then he has many options available to do so. He can do masters in many of the fields like Commerce, Business Administration. He can do Chartered Accountancy too.

Scope for higher education after BBA:

If students are interested in going for higher education after BBA, then MBA is the best option. This could be a profitable deal. For admission in MBA degree courses, many colleges give first preference to BBA Graduates. With this students can increase their marketing value. This would definitely increase their chance to secure a good job position in many reputed multinational companies.

What to go for B.Com or BBA?

It is really a difficult question to ask. Comparison between these two is not an easy task because both these courses have their own importance, because of which it is often tough to choose one over the other. A candidate should be well aware about his/her needs and which will help in selecting the one out of the two, probably the one which can satisfy the needs.

Generally B.Com is opted by those commerce students who are intended to make their career in the field of accountancy, auditor, tax consultant, financial advisor etc. Generally speaking students who want to dive into finance. On the other hand, BBA courses are popular for those students who have already decided to make their career in the field of corporate world. With this qualification they can perform a role of business administrator, human resource management, operations management etc.

In today’s era, it is easy for MBA graduates to get jobs as opposed to a simple graduate. In view of this, many commerce graduates are also moving towards MBA nowadays.

So this can be concluded that selection of higher studies courses merely depends upon the fact that in which fields candidates want to make their career.
