Data Science has shown great improvements over the last few years. Upskilling in this domain can greatly benefit your career. Read about Soujanya’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course.
I have been a teacher, outreach as well as admissions member from my first job. I always wanted to analyze student performance in a better way. Being a mathematics teacher, I started applying statistics in real life. But I always got stuck and couldn’t apply all the concepts I learnt as I didn’t know how to approach it in real time. In my outreach and admissions experience, always wondered what were the factors that influenced a student in applying for an organization/university.
That’s when in my current organization I got a chance to manage data and the concept of data science triggered me. I have applied few statistical tools in R and Python in the past, but I did not know if what I was doing is right or wrong. I finally decided to take up this course to help me analyze my data better.
I tried applying every concept learnt in this course, ANOVA for an example. When I applied this concept, surprisingly, I found the ones which we thought did not hamper, actually had an effect on the conversions.
“I got promoted as a Manager, data analysis being one of the reasons. I really thank the program for giving me this confidence that I need not be exposed to a corporate data science team in order to do well in data science.”
When I put this across my team head, he was really fascinated. We as a team took a chance to check if my analysis was right. YES!!! My analysis was right and we were able to get better conversions compared to what happened in the past. Also the organization did not have anybody working on data science before this, but after my attempt in analysis they have taken this aspect very seriously. All the discussions in our meetings are based on my analysis.
Guess what! I got promoted as Manager (waiting for my official letter though), data analysis being one of the reasons. I really thank the program for giving me this confidence that I need not be exposed to a corporate data science team in order to do well in data science. Just by applying whatever I learnt in the course, I was able to understand the concepts better. One suggestion I would like to give those who are taking up the course is to try and apply whatever they learn at their work place. Trust me, once you are confident with that, you achieve wonders and recognition follows you!
