AI For Accurate Oral Cancer Diagnosis and Major AI Investments

Table of contents

In a recent development, scientists at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, have developed AI-based algorithms for rapid diagnosis and prediction of Oral Cancer (oral squamous cell carcinoma).

They developed an indigenous dataset through collaborations for the study as any benchmark oral cancer dataset was not available. They conducted the study by applying two approaches, transfer learning and a pre-trained deep convolutional neural network (CNN).

As per the results, the proposed CNN model displayed accuracy of 97.5 percent and outperformed the transfer learning approaches.
