Week 5 Project 1: Dashboard for Gamers' Arena Subscription Strategy

Business Context:

Gamers' Arena is a website that provides information about video games. It keeps track of the games that have been released and their sales across various platforms and genres. Different genres, such as RPGs, shooters, multiplayer, action, and so on, would appeal to different audiences. Gamers' Arena has now implemented a feature on their website that allows gamers to subscribe to their platform on a month-to-month basis. They can play a limited number of games as long as they have a subscription.

Objective:

As an analytics lead, you must design an interactive dashboard that helps the director of the company decide on a new sales model (a subscription model) that will attract more gamers to our platform. There are multiple questions to be answered to decide on the subscription model. For example, which games need to be given for the subscription and what would be the duration? To answer these questions, a dashboard needs to be created.

Module 3: Advanced Tableau for Data Analytics
Week 6: Data Connectivity and Transformation in Tableau

You will learn a wide range of fundamental Tableau skills, including connecting to and accessing various data sources, preparing and cleaning data, performing advanced data transformations using Tableau Prep, and customizing data fields to create meaningful and insightful visualizations. Mastering these core competencies is crucial for data analysts and visualization practitioners to effectively work with data and derive valuable insights.

Connect to Data Sources

  • Choose an appropriate data source
  • Choose between live connection or extract
  • Connect to extracts
  • Connect to spreadsheets
  • Connect to .hyper files (or .tde files)
  • Connect to relational databases
  • Pull data from relational databases by using custom SQL queries
  • Connect to a data source on the Tableau Server
  • Replace the connected data source with another data source for an existing chart or sheet
Prepare Data for Analysis
  • Assess data quality (completeness, consistency, accuracy)
  • Perform cleaning operations
  • Organize data into folders
  • Use multiple data sources (establish relationships, create joins, union tables)
  • Prepare data by using Data Interpreter, pivot, and split
  • Create extract filters

Perform Data Transformation in Tableau Prep

  • Choose which data transformation to perform based on a business scenario
  • Combine data by using unions
  • Combine data by using joins
  • Shape data by using aggregations
  • Shape data by using pivots

Customize Fields

  • Change default field properties (types, sorting, etc.)
  • Rename columns
  • Choose when to convert between discrete and continuous
  • Create aliases
Week 7: Dashboard Design and Interactivity

This week, participants will explore special charts, advanced features, and interactive dashboards for storytelling in Tableau. They'll learn about parameters, LOD calculation, dashboard actions, and specialized charts to create dynamic visuals that effectively convey narratives. The topics that will be covered in this week include:

  • Special Charts
  • Pareto chart
  • Parameters-Top N
  • Parameters-Application on Dashboard

You will learn how to create a wide range of charts and visualizations in Tableau, from basic charts like pie, bubble, and data tables to more advanced options like Gantt, box plots, and combo charts. You'll also gain the ability to sort data, including custom sorting, and combine multiple sheets into interactive dashboards using containers, layout options, and various actions like filters, URLs, and highlighting. Additionally, you'll explore techniques to format dashboards by applying custom colours, fonts, shapes, and annotations, as well as implementing responsive design for different device layouts. These skills demonstrate your proficiency in building visually appealing and user-friendly data visualizations that effectively communicate insights.

Create Charts

  • Create basic charts from scratch (pie, bubbles, data tables, Gantt, box plots, area, dual axis, combo)
  • Sort data (including custom sort)
Create Dashboards and Stories
  • Combine sheets into a dashboard by using containers and layout options

Week - 10 Project 2: Customer Behavior Insights for a UK Bank

Business Context: A leading UK-based bank is seeking to enhance its understanding of customer behaviour, optimize operations, and improve overall customer satisfaction. By leveraging its extensive data on customer demographics, account details, balance distribution, and job classification the bank aims to derive actionable insights. Tableau, a powerful data visualization tool, is chosen to perform a comprehensive analysis.

Objective: As an analytics lead, you must design an interactive dashboard that helps the Bank authorities under their customer profile and take strategic steps for their customer satisfaction. The primary objective is to utilize Tableau to conduct an in-depth analysis of the UK Bank dataset. This analysis focuses on understanding customer segmentation, analyzing account balances, and identifying patterns that could inform strategic decisions. In order to answer these questions, a dashboard needs to be created. But we also have to face a challenge to prepare the dataset according to the need for analysis. Following are the questions for prep the data using the Tableau dataset and loading the output csv file to create the required dashboard.
